Problem 54P

A bag of potato chips contains 585 mL of air at \(25^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\) and a pressure of 765 mm Hg. Assuming the bag does not break, what will be its volume at the top of a mountain where the pressure is 442 mm Hg and the temperature is \(5.0^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\)?

Step-by-Step Solution:
Step 1 of 3

Solution 54P

Given that

Volume of bag containing potato chips(V1) = 585 mL

Temperature  (T1)=25oC.

Pressure  (P1)= 765mm of Hg .

Pressure (P2)=442 mm of Hg.

Temperature(T2)=5oC.

We have to find the volume(V2) of bag after climbing the mountain

We know the formula

P1V1/T1=P2V2/T2

765 *585/25=442*V2/5.

765*585/5*442=V2.

V2=395mL.
