Chapter 1, Problem 98AE

(choose chapter or problem)

A chemical plant uses electrical energy to decompose aqueous solutions of NaCl to give \(\mathrm{Cl}_2, \mathrm{H}_2\), and NaOH :

                                                        \(2 \mathrm{NaCl}(a q)+2 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}(l) \longrightarrow 2 \mathrm{NaOH}(a q)+\mathrm{H}_2(g)+\mathrm{Cl}_2(g)\)

If the plant produces \(1.5 \times 10^{6}\) kg (1500 metric tons) of \(Cl_2\) daily, estimate the quantities of \(H_2\) and NaOH produced.
