Le Châtelier’s principle states that when a chemical system at equilibrium is disturbed by changing the concentration, pressure or temperature, then the system shifts in a direction that minimizes the disturbance.

The effect of a volume change on the reaction at equilibrium is dependent on the number of moles present in the reactant and products.

From the chemical; equation,

No of moles in the reactant = 2.0 mol

No of moles in the product = 2.0 mol

Thus, this reaction has equal number of moles of gas on both sides.

Therefore, the change in volume ( increase or decrease) does not produce any effect on the equilibrium.
