Suppose you wanted to cause Ni2+ ions to come out of solution as solid Ni. What metal could you use to accomplish this?
Solution 79P :
Step 1:
To separate Ni metal, i.e Ni solid from the solution containing Ni2+ ions, we need to add a metal that is higher than Ni on the activity series and the one which will not significantly react with water.
Zinc(Zn), Manganese(Mn), Iron(Fe), Chromium(Cr), Aluminium(Al), Magnesium(Mg), Sodium(Na), Calcium(Ca), Potassium(K) or Lithium(Li) are the metals that could be added to separate Ni from the solution containing Ni2+ ions.
