What is the generic structure of amines? Write the structures of two specific amines.

Step-by-Step Solution:

Solution:

Step 1

Amines are one of smelliest families of organic molecules. Amines are most easily thought of as close relatives to ammonia (NH3).The basic ammonia structure is changed when the hydrogen atoms are replaced by alkyl groups to form amines. You can change one, two or all three of them, and these are called primary, secondary and tertiary amines, respectively.

Generic structure of amine are  R-NH2 (1o amine), R2-NH (2o amine), R3-N (3oamine)

             (1o amine)                             (2o amine)                             (3oamine)

Examples:

Methylamine- CH3-NH2  (1o amine)

Ethylmethylamine-CH3-NH-CH2-CH3(2o amine),
