Aldehydes and ketones are organic compounds containing a carbonyl functional group, which is a carbon- oxygen double bond(C=O).  

Aldehydes have hydrogen atom attached to the carbonyl group with either another hydrogen atom or another group which might be an alkyl group(R-group).  

Examples of common aldehydes :

1. Formaldehyde (CH2O) :                        2. Ethanal (C2H4O), also called as acetaldehyde:
