It is defined as the burning of hydrocarbons in presence of Oxygen. Due to combustion reaction, hydrocarbon generates carbon dioxide, water, and heat. It is an exothermic reaction.

The general reaction of combustion reaction is  CxHy + N(O2)-------> CO2 (g) + y/2 H2
