Solution 74P: Here,we are going to discuss about the formation of two copies of DNA via replication process.

In 1953, James D. Watson and Francis H. C. Crick determined the existence of the complementary strand of DNA double helix.Both the strands are antiparallel to each other through 3’→5’ and 5’→3’. The nitrogen bases such as Guanine (G), thymine (T), Cytosine © and adenine (A) are connected by Hydrogen bonding and placed toward the interior of the helix to form helical coil structure of DNA.

DNA replication is a process where two identical  replicas of DNA are formed from the original DNA molecule.This is the basis of biological inheritance and it occurs in living organisms.

DNA replication  occurs as follows:

Step 1: Cell division to break the complementary strand of each DNA (Initiation)

The DNA unwinds by breaking the hydrogen bonds between the complementary base pairs forming two daughter strands when the cell is about to divide.
