Step 1

Acetic acid on reaction with methoxide ion forms acetate ion and methanol as the product. Here the reactant (acetic acid) has the pKa value 4.8 and the product methanol has the pKa value 15.5.

pKa value of product is higher than that of the reactant thus the equilibrium will be  shifted towards the product.
