QUESTION:

Why does a stream of water get narrower as it falls from a faucet?

ANSWER:

Solution Step 1 of 2 The mass of the object which is falling under gravity near the surface of the earth will remain constant, as acceleration due to gravity remains constant. Since the water is falling downward, it becomes faster and faster as it comes down. Therefore; the cross sectional area of water must be thinner to keep mass constant.
