ΔSo is nothing but change in Entropy. It is a measure of the freedom of motion or the molecular disorder in a system. The greater the disorder, the positive is the change in entropy.

In a chemical reaction where a single molecule is cleaved or broken into two separate molecules, the products will have greater freedom of motion than the reactant. Hence, ΔSo is positive.

ΔSo will be negative in a reaction where two molecules combine to form a single molecule and the product will be lesser freedom of motion than the reactants. Hence, ΔSo is negative.
