The E2 reaction is the bimolecular elimination reaction. The rate of E2 reaction depends on the concentrations of both alkyl halide and nucleophile. E2 reaction is sometimes called a -elimination reaction because the elimination reaction is initiated by removing a proton from a -carbon. It is also called a 1,2-elimination reaction because the atoms being removed are on adjacent carbons.
