The Newton’s law of cooling says that the rate of heat loss of an object is directly proportional to the temperature difference between the object and the surrounding. From this we can deduce that, it is valid for any kind of heat exchange. It only cares about the temperature difference between the cold and hot object. The process might be called cooling, but at the same time the temperature of the cold object increases. So it can be thought of as a warming process.
