Does a liquid release energy or absorb energy when it changes into a gas?
Solution 26RQ Introduction : Liquids are more structured than gases. Liquids are having a definite volume and it will take the shape of the container in which it is kept. This is due to the moderate force of attraction between the molecules in liquid. The molecules in gases are having very weak force of attraction between them. Hence it is said to be that the molecules in gas are loosely bound. Gases are having the most disordered structure and it does not have a definite volume and shape. Step 1: In order to break the moderate force of attraction between the molecules in liquid, we should give energy into it. Once we break the bonds, the force of attraction between the molecules will be weakened and hence it will change into gaseous state. Conclusion: Liquids absorb energy when it changes into a gas.
