The potential energy of water gets converted into the kinetic energy as it falls, and again this kinetic energy gets converted to rotational kinetic energy by the rotation of the turbine. STEP 2: This is the technique by which we produce electricity. In hydroelectric power plants we use water as the main source of electricity. If we rotate the turbine between two magnets, electricity is produced. That rotation of turbine can be done by thermal power, water, wind or anything. CONCLUSION: But in hydroelectric power plant the source is water with high potential energy. Means the water should fall from a height which can rotate the turbine.
