QUESTION:

Why will light pass through a pair of Polaroids when the axes are aligned but not when the axes are at right angles to each other?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 3

A light is said to be unpolarised which contains many of the polarized waves each of which oscillate in their own plane, ordinary light is unpolarized. Individual photons of the unpolarized light are polarized, but these photons oscillate in different directions, which results in the light beam not being polarized as a whole.
