Questions & Answers

QUESTION:

Why is the pressure in an automobile’s tires slightly greater after the car has been driven several kilometers?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

To transfer the torque from the car there needs to be friction between the tires and the ground which causes a slight increase in temperature of the tires. Also, since mass and volume of the tire remain the same, this increase in temperature will cause the molecules of air inside the tire to accelerate which will cause the rise in pressure.
