This change in the gravitational in the surrounding space will send a ripple in the space and causing a gravitational wave. Also, from the general theory of the relativity, we know that the gravity causes a change in the space time curvature of the space. So if the gravitational field strength changes, the spacetime curvature of the surrounding space will also change. And with the gravitational wave, there will an wave of changing space time, as the gravitation wave propagates through the space.
