QUESTION:

Problem 63P

What is the dew point (approximately) if the humidity is 50% on a day when the temperature is 25°C?

ANSWER:

Solution 63 P

Step 1 of 2

We have to find the dew point if the humidity is 50% on a day when the temperature is 25°C.

Dew point is the atmospheric temperature (varying according to pressure and humidity) below which water droplets begin to condense and dew can form.

If the humidity is 50% on a day when the temperature is 25°C then the partial pressure of water is half the saturated vapour pressure.

The saturated vapour pressure of water at 25 oC can be found from the below table for saturated vapour pressure of water at different temperatures.

At 25 oC, the saturated vapour pressure of water is 23.8 torr. Hence, the partial pressure of water at 25 oC is 11.4 torr.

Therefore, the dew point is the temperature at which the saturated pressure is 11.9 torr.
