QUESTION:

Problem 65P

If the air pressure at a particular place in the mountains is 0.72 atm, estimate the temperature at which water boils.

ANSWER:

Solution 65 P

Step 1 of 2

We have to estimate the temperature at which water boils at a particular place in the mountains, if the air pressure is 0.72 atm.

The air pressure at a particular place in mountain is equal to the saturated vapour pressure of water at the boiling point of water. The air pressure is 0.72 atm which is equal to Pa.

From the above table it is obvious that temperature corresponding to 7.27Pa is in between 90 oC and 100 oC.

Since, there is no temperature value corresponding to 7.27Pa in the table, it can be estimated by a linear interpolation.
