According to the model for the randomized block design given in this section, the expected response when treatment i is applied in block j is E(Yi j ) = μ + τi + β j, for i = 1, 2, . . . , k and j = 1, 2, . . . , b.

a Use the model given in this section to calculate the average of the n = bk expected responses associated with all of the blocks and treatments.

b Give an interpretation for the parameter μ that appears in the model for the randomized block design.
