Problem 4 BSC

Interpreting a GraphThe accompanying graph plots the numbers of points scored in each Super Bowl from 1980 (coded as year 1) to the last Super Bowl at the time of this writing. The graph also shows the graph of the quadratic equation that best fits the data. What feature of the graph justifies the value ofR2=0.103 for the quadratic model?

QUESTION:

Problem 4 BSC

Interpreting a GraphThe accompanying graph plots the numbers of points scored in each Super Bowl from 1980 (coded as year 1) to the last Super Bowl at the time of this writing. The graph also shows the graph of the quadratic equation that best fits the data. What feature of the graph justifies the value ofR2=0.103 for the quadratic model?

ANSWER:

Solution 4 BSC

Step 1 of 3

The data set used for analysis consist of the year represented by x variables which is coded as 1, 2, 3 … for the years starting from 1980 and the variable y is used to denote the number of points scored in the super bowl from 1980.the coefficient of determination which measure the variation in the y variable corresponding to the x variables are measured for different models are obtained. The quadratic model with 0.103 is the model supposed to be the best when compared to other models which has comparatively lesser  value.
