Can an object with constant acceleration reverse its direction of travel? Can it reverse its directio? wice?? In both cases, explain your reasoning.
Solution 3DQ STEP 1: Yes the object can reverse it’s direction while maintaining constant direction. Because acceleration is only concerned about the change in velocity. If the initial velocity of the object is opposite to the direction of acceleration, then the direction of motion has to reverse. Imagine a ball thrown up and it is under the influence of gravity. The direction of motion gets reversed at a maximum height while the acceleration is same. The acceleration due to gravity is the only acceleration present here. STEP 2:- Yes it can reverse it’s direction twice too. Once the ball will reach a maximum height, then it will start falling towards ground. And after hitting the ground, if the ball has some elastic properties, again it will move upwards with the same acceleration. The acceleration remains constant between all these change in direction.
