Problem 2E

A rhinoceros is at the origin of coordinates at time t1 = 0. For the time interval from t1 = 0 to t2 = 12.0 s, the rhino’s average velocity has x-component - 3.8 m/s and y-component 4.9 m/s. At time t2 = 12.0 s, (a) what are the x- and y-coordinates of the rhino? (b) How far is the rhino from the origin?

Step-by-Step Solution:
Step 1 of 3

Solution 2E (a).In that time interval,the rhino travelled in the x-direction a distance of 3.8 m/s × 12 s = 45.6 m. In the y-direction,the rhino travelled 4.9 m/s × 12 s = 58.8 m. The x,y coordinate of rhino are ( 45.6 m,58.8 m). (b).The distance of origin will find out by pythagorean theorem d = ( 45.6 m) + (58.8 m) = 74.70 m from the origin.
