During the formation of a solution, a solute is dissolved in the solvent. Initially, the system contains only the molecules of the solvent. After the addition of solute, the number of molecules in the system increases. The solute molecules disperse within the solvent molecules and occupy the empty spaces between them. This increases the randomness inside the molecules.
