The following reactions are common in the stratosphere:(a)

Chapter 20, Problem 91P

(choose chapter or problem)

The following reactions are common in the stratosphere:

(a) \(\mathrm{NO}_2(g)\ \longrightarrow\mathrm{\ NO}(g)+\mathrm{O}(g)\)

(b) \(\mathrm{N}_2\mathrm{O}(g)\ \longrightarrow\ \mathrm{N}_2(g)+\mathrm{O}(g)\)

(c) \(\mathrm{H}_2(g)+\mathrm{O}(g)\ \longrightarrow\mathrm{\ OH}(g)+\mathrm{H}(g)\)

(d) \(\mathrm{CH}_4(g)+\mathrm{O}(g)\ \longrightarrow\mathrm{\ OH}(g)+\mathrm{CH}_3(g)\)

First, without doing any calculations, predict whether each of the reactions is endothermic or exothermic. Then estimate \(\Delta H^{\circ}\) for each reaction, and comment on your predictions and estimates.
