Oxyhemoglobin is bright red, whereas deoxyhemoglobin is purple. Show that the difference in color can be accounted for qualitatively on the basis of high-spin and low-spin complexes. (Hint: \(\mathrm{O}_{2}\) is a strong-field ligand; see Chemistry in Action essay on p. 1018.)
