Chapter 3, Problem 45E

(choose chapter or problem)

?45E Run the algorithm from Exercise 44 on the input given in Exercise 42. An approximation algorithm tor an optimization problem produces a solution guaranteed to be close to an optimal solution. More precisely, suppose that the optimization problem asks for an input ?S that minimizes ?F?(?X?) where ?F is some function of the input ?X?. If an algorithm always finds an input ?T with ?F?(?T?) ? ?cF?(?S?) where ?c is a fixed positive real number, the algorithm is called a ?c?-approximation algorithm for the problem.
