Why can you exert greater force on the pedals of a bicycle if you pull up on the handlebars?

ANSWER:

When you pull up on the handlebars,the handlebars push downward on you with an equal and opposite force.this force is transmitted through  you downward to the pedals,in addition to the force you exert on the pedals with your legs.this is the good example of newton’s third law.
