What is total energy? Identify the different forms of energy that constitute the total energy.
Solution to 24P
Step 1
Total energy is the internal energy of the system.
Thermodynamic energy of a system is divided into two forms of energy namely, Macroscopic and Microscopic energy.
Macroscopic energy passes through boundary of the system and interact with the surroundings. These kind of energy is dependent on the reference frame. Examples are Kinetic energy and Potential energy.
Microscopic energy is related to the randomness of the molecules in a system. The random/disordered motion of molecule will produce energy which are microscopic.
