QUESTION:

What is viscosity? What is the cause of it in liquids and in gases? Do liquids or gases have higher dynamic viscosities?

ANSWER:
Step 1 of 2

The viscosity of a fluid is the measure of the opposition provided by the liquid when it flows. It is like friction provided by the ground to a body in motion. Viscosity measures how easily a fluid can flow. If we take honey and water, the water will flow more easily compared to honey. Thus we can say that water has less viscosity compared to honey.
