In Fig. 12-79, consider the right-hand (northernmost)section of the Golden Gate Bridge, which has a lengthdi = 343 m. Assume the cg of this span is halfway betweenthe tower and anchor. Determine FX1 and FT2 (which act onthe northernmost cable) in terms of mg, the weight of thenorthernmost span, and calculate the tower height h neededfor equilibrium. Assume the roadway is supported only bythe suspension cables, and neglect the mass of the cables andvertical wires. [Hint: FX3 does not act on this section.FIGURE 12-79 64 and 65.
