Poiseuilles equation does not hold if the flow velocity

Chapter 13, Problem 13.69

(choose chapter or problem)

Poiseuilles equation does not hold if the flow velocity ishigh enough that turbulence sets in. The onset of turbulenceoccurs when the Reynolds number, Re, exceeds approximately2000. Re is defined as2 vrpRe = Vwhere v is the average speed of the fluid, p is its density, rj is itsviscosity, and r is the radius of the tube in which the fluid isflowing, (a) Determine if blood flow through the aorta islaminar or turbulent when the average speed of blood in theaorta (r = 0.80 cm) during the resting part of the heartscycle is about 35 cm/s. (b) During exercise, the blood-flowspeed approximately doubles. Calculate the Reynolds numberin this case, and determine if the flow is laminar or turbulent
