From words to probabilities Probability is a measure of how likely an event is to occur. Match one of the probabilities that follow with each statement of likelihood given. (Th e probability is usually a more exact measure of likelihood than is the verbal statement.) 0 0.01 0.3 0.6 0.99 1 (a) Th is event is impossible. It can never occur. (b) Th is event is certain. It will occur on every trial. (c) Th is event is very unlikely, but it will occur once in a while in a long sequence of trials. (d) Th is event will occur more oft en than not.
