A dramatic demonstration, called singing rods, involves along, slender aluminum rod held in the hand near the rodsmidpoint. The rod is stroked with the other hand. With alittle practice, the rod can be made to sing, or emit aclear, loud, ringing sound. For a 75-cm-long rod, (a) what isthe fundamental frequency of the sound? (b) What is itswavelength in the rod, and (c) what is the wavelength ofthe sound in air at 20C?
