Suppose the mirrors in a Michelson interferometer areperfectly aligned and the path lengths to mirrors M i and M 2are identical. With these in itia l conditions, an observer seesa bright maximum at the center of the viewing area. Nowone of the mirrors is moved a distance x. Determine aformula for the intensity at the center of the viewing area asa function of x, the distance the movable mirror is movedfrom the initia l position.
