Despite the promise of nanotechnology (see Horizons in Secs. 1.6 and 2.2), some say it involves risks requiring scrutiny. For instance, the tiny size of nanoparticles may allow them to evade the natural defenses of the human body, and manufacturing at the nanoscale may lead to environmental burdens and excessive energy resource use. Research the risks that accompany widespread production and deployment of nanotechnology. For each risk identified, develop policy recommendations on safeguards for consumers and the environment. Write a report with at least three references.
