QUESTION:
For an n-type semiconductor, where is the Fermi level located?
A) In the valence band
B) In the band gap just above the top of valence band
C) In the middle of the band gap
D) In the band gap just below the bottom of the conduction band
ANSWER:Step 1 of 2
The n-type semiconductors are intrinsic semiconductors that are formed by the doping of the group V. Phosphorus and Arsenic are some of examples of group 5 which add five valence electrons in the lattice and only four electrons make a bond and the remaining electrons are free to move into the lattice. Since group 5 donate an electron, it is called a donor and a semiconductor that has been doped is called an n-type semiconductor.
