A group of students drove from their university (near sea level) up into the mountains for a skiing weekend. Upon arriving at the slopes, they discovered that the bags of potato chips they had brought for snacks had all burst open. What caused this to happen?
Solution 8DQ Step 1: When the students are near the university the air pressure in the chips bag and atmospheric pressure are at same levels But the as they start driving up the mountains, the atmospheric air starts increasing, now the air pressure of the chips bag is lesser compared to it’s atmosphere. It is a tendency in nature to maintain equilibrium conditions as result of this, the chip bags in order to have same air pressure as the atmosphere bloats up with increasing air pressure in atmosphere as result of excessive pressure they burst open Thus the chip bag is open when they reach on top of mountain
