Chapter 4, Problem 18

(choose chapter or problem)

Using the Mean Value Theorem In Exercises 13-18, determine whether the Mean Value Theorem can be applied to f on the closed interval [a, b]. If the Mean Value Theorem can be applied, find all values ofc in the open interval (a, b) such that

\(f^{\prime}(c)=\frac{f(b)-f(a)}{b-a}\).

If the Mean Value Theorem cannot be applied, explain why not.

\(f(x)=x \log _{2} x, \quad[1,2]\)

Text Transcription:

f’(c)=f(b)-f(a)

f(x)=x log_2 x, [1,2]
