Here we have to  synthesize the following compounds, using appropriate carboxylic acids and amines

Step 1

(a)Synthesis of N,N-dimethyl-meta-toluamide :-

N,N-dimethyl-meta-toluamide can be prepared from m-toluene benzoic acid . In this reaction  m-toluene benzoic acid on deprotonation in presence of   secondary amine (diethyl amine) forms m-toluene benzoate ion which on heating causes release of water and give N,N-dimethyl-meta-toluamide as the product.
