Sometimes, to reduce starting current to reasonable

Chapter 17, Problem P17.15

(choose chapter or problem)

Sometimes, to reduce starting current to reasonable values, induction motors are started with reduced source voltage. When the motor approaches its operating speed, the voltage is increased to full rated value. Compute the starting line current and torque for the motor of Example 17.2 if it is started with a source voltage of 220 V. Compare results with the values found in the example, and comment.
