QUESTION:

Calculate the rate of heat conduction through a layer of still air that is 1 mm thick, with an area of \(1 m^2\) , for a temperature difference of \(20^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\).

ANSWER:

Step 1:

Thickness of the layer of still air  = 1 mm or 10-3 m

        Area of the layer A = 1 m2

        Difference in temperature  = 20°C or 20 K

Thermal conductivity of air kt = 0.026 W/m.K
