QUESTION:

Sketch the graph of the following ellipses. Plot and label the coordinates of the vertices and foci, and find the lengths of the major and minor axes. Use a graphing utility to check your work.

\(\frac{x^2}{9}+\frac{y^2}{4}=1\)

ANSWER:

Solution 28E

Step 1:

In this problem we have to draw the graph of an ellipse +=1, and we have to label  the vertices, foci and the lengths of the major and minor axis.

Note ; We know that  Standard form of an ellipse is ; + =1.In this case a > b , and =) , e < 1.

Center  is  ;(0,0) , vertices are ;( a, 0) ,(-a,0) , and foci is ( ae, 0) (-ae,0).

Length of the major axis is 2a , and the length of the minor axis is 2b.
