PrisonerA asks the jailer to tell him privately which ofhis fellow prisoners will be set free, claiming thatthere would be no harm in divulging this informationbecause he already knows that at least one ofthe two will go free. The jailer refuses to answerthe question, pointing out that if A knew whichof his fellow prisoners were to be set free, thenhis own probability of being executed would risefrom 13to 12because he would then be one of twoprisoners.
