Chapter 9, Problem 12E

(choose chapter or problem)

In Exercise 6.5-5, data are given for horsepower, the time it takes a car to go from 0 to 60, and the weight in pounds of a car, for 14 cars. Those data are repeated here:

(a) Let \(\rho\) be the correlation coefficient of horsepower and weight. Test \(H_{0}: \rho=0\) against \(H_{1}: \rho \neq 0\).

(b) Let \(\rho$ be the correlation coefficient of horsepower and "0-60." Test \(H_{0}: \rho=0\) against \(H_{1}: \rho<0\).

(c) Let \(\rho\) be the correlation coefficient of weight and "0-60." Test \(H_{0}: \rho=0\) against \(H_{1}: \rho \neq 0\).
