Flow rates Suppose a gauge at the outflow of a reservoir

Chapter 5, Problem 68

(choose chapter or problem)

Flow rates Suppose a gauge at the outflow of a reservoir measures the flow rate of water in units of ft3>hr. In Chapter 6, we show that the total amount of water that flows out of the reservoir is the area under the flow rate curve. Consider the flow-rate function shown in the figure. a. Find the amount of water (in units of ft3) that flows out of the reservoir over the interval 30, 44. b. Find the amount of water that flows out of the reservoir over the interval 38, 104. c. Does more water flow out of the reservoir over the interval 30, 44 or 34, 64? d. Show that the units of your answer are consistent with the units of the variables on the axes.
