The amount of work done by the bird in raising a snake from the ground to a branch can be calculated by equating the amount of work done to the gravitational potential energy of the snake at that height.

The gravitational potential energy PEs of the snake at a height h from the ground is

Where, g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s2

             m = mass of the snake = 75 g = 7510-3 kg

             h = distance from the ground = 2.5 m

This potential energy is equal to the work done by the kookaburra on snake.

So,

     

Substitute 7510-3 kg for m, 9.8 m/s2 for g, 2.5 m for h

      = ( 75

      = 1.837 J

Therefore, the amount of work done by the kookaburra bird  on the snake is 1.837 J .
