In the given case, a car is moving initially at speed , carrying a passenger of mass  comes to rest in  after hitting a tree. Here we need to calculate the force that seat belt exerts on the passenger and compare that with the force applied by a seat belt in other case, when the car collides with another car having same mass and travelling in opposite directions at same speed.
