Problem 3CQ

List the ways in which magnetic field lines and electric field lines are similar. For example, the field direction is tangent to the line at any point in space. Also list the ways in which they differ. For example, electric force is parallel to electric field lines, whereas magnetic force on moving charges is perpendicular to magnetic field lines.

Problem 3CQ

ANSWER:

Solution 3CQ

The electromagnetic force is one amongst the fundamental forces. This is a non-contact force that can be understood by considering field lines of electric and magnetic forces.

Similarities between magnetic and electric field lines,

• The direction of the magnetic field at a point can be determined by the tangent to a field line at that point.

• Two field lines of force can never cross each other. If they do, then there will be two tangents. It means that there are two values of the field at that point, which is not possible.
